The haiku is a form that is characterized by image, sound, rhythm, and most importantly brevity. Though haikus are known for their 5-7-5 syllable count, within the English language, it is more the 5-7-5 rhythm than the syllable count itself in which the spirit is contained. An entire sensory experience of a moment should be pithily captured within three lines.
postcards arrive
scattered across a vineyard
the evening snow
ripening blues
in the stillness of your noon
cast to the air
drone strikes and love bombs
tears falling beneath
cotton candy clouds
a spider admires
her loosening tressÂ
weaving its goodbye
